When change is difficult
When we feel stuck – unable to make positive changes in our life or resolve a frustration – it’s often because we are torn between our desire for something better and our anxieties about what is right or possible. Are we being realistic? How will others see it? Do we really know what we need anyway?
Have you learned to believe that you should ignore some of your hopes and feelings in order to have success or approval? Eventually, those compromises can suck all the fun and energy out of life.
In fact, when you pay kind attention to all your contradictory thoughts, feelings and beliefs, you’ll connect with an inner source of guidance which knows exactly what is right for you. You can find the certainty and courage to create positive changes in your life that feel natural and unforced.
I call this the Root and Branch approach – connecting the aspirations, challenges and important relationships in our external life with our internal experience: our joys and anxieties, identity and self-worth.
Hello, I’m Karen Bray.
I’ve drawn together my experience as a counsellor, mediator, mentor and workshop leader to develop the Root and Branch approach. It’s based in an understanding that, to find fulfilment in the external branches of our life – work, home, family, friends and other commitments – we need to nourish the inner roots that sustain them: our emotional resilience, strengths, values and passions.
Clients tell me they gain a richer, more secure sense of themselves. They can relate more genuinely with the people that matter to them, have a clearer sense of direction, and feel greater zest for life.
My approach is grounded in mainstream evidence-based psychology and meets the ethical and professional standards of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy).
